Core Beliefs
Christian Science is Christian! It is both a religious teaching, deeply rooted in the teachings of the Bible that brings out the scientific, practical healing needed in today’s world.
Christian Scientists understand one, infinite God who is Father-Mother All, and all-good, all-loving. They understand God is not distant and unknowable, but that God is all-encompassing, knowable, and always present. Each individual is loved by Father-Mother God, cared for, and made in God’s image—spiritual, not material.
Christian Scientists love and study the Bible and accept that Christ Jesus is the Son of God, or promised Messiah. They understand that Jesus’ teachings and healing work expressed scientific Christianity, or the application of the loving laws of God—laws which are still practical and provable today, by anyone, anywhere. Christian Scientists consider the Ten Commandments, as well as Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, to be central to their lives and practice of Christianity.
Above all, Christian Scientists believe in the saving, healing power of God’s love—that no one is beyond redemption, that no problem is too entrenched or overwhelming to be addressed and healed. In other words, Christian Scientists don’t believe that salvation occurs at some point in the future, but that the presence of God’s goodness can be experienced here and now—and by everyone.

The Books
The Bible
The Bible is central to Christian Science. Its sense of law, psalms, stories, and especially Christ Jesus’ teachings and healings, form the basis of Christian Science as a religious teaching and a system of spiritual healing. The Bible is best understood in its literal and moral meaning, then interpreted spiritually for application and guidance to ones life.
Science and Health
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures - A practical explanation of the spiritual teachings of the Bible, has allowed people to see this important text with fresh eyes, with an understanding that everyone is equally precious and valued, and that the highest form of worship is a demonstration of an understanding of God through healing like Christ Jesus did.
First published in 1875, Science and Health has sold over 10 million copies and is still a best-seller today. 2000-2001 yielded the book's highest annual sales ever. It has also been cited by the US Women's National Book Association as "one of the 75 books by women whose words have changed the world."
The author, Mary Baker Eddy, devoted more than four decades to communicating a message of hope, healing, comfort, and spiritual strength to the world. She healed, taught, preached, lectured, mentored, and published. Eddy's greatest contribution was writing Science and Health and making it available to everyone.

The Weekly Bible Lesson
Discover more about the Bible, about a loving, all present loving God, and about the science of healing. A new Bible study guide is published every week for individual reading and study. Each Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly focuses on a particular subject, such as “God,” “Mortals and Immortals,”, “Love,” and “God the Preserver of Man.” There are 26 subjects in all, each appearing twice a year. The passages from the Bible and Science and Health are different each time a subject appears, providing fresh insights and an ongoing course of Bible study.
Studied daily, these lessons provide inspiration, comfort, and guidance for the rest of the day. Each of these lessons then becomes the sermon, preached word for word, at the services of Christian Science churches worldwide. Mary Baker Eddy
Mary Baker Eddy (1821–1910) was an influential American author, teacher, and religious leader, noted for her groundbreaking ideas about spirituality and health, which she named Christian Science. She articulated those ideas in her major work, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, first published in 1875. Four years later she founded the Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, which today has branch churches and societies around the world. In 1908 she launched The Christian Science Monitor, a leading international newspaper, the recipient, to date, of seven Pulitzer Prizes.
